About Us

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.  EMA regulates the electricity and piped gas industries and district cooling services in designated areas, and is also responsible for ensuring the security, reliability and adequacy of electricity supply.

Since 2009, EMA has expanded its mandate to not only oversee the regulatory and operational aspects of the energy market, but also to take on industry development and promotional functions.  Seeking to forge a progressive energy landscape for sustained growth, EMA aims to develop a dynamic energy sector in Singapore through various initiatives such as encouraging and promoting greater competition (fuel competition, retail competition for instance) in the electricity and piped gas industries, growing Singapore into a gas/LNG trading hub, championing smart energy initiatives, and facilitating thought-provoking dialogue through the annual Singapore International Energy Week.
